Pulaski Tech purchases property for future child development center
Pulaski Technical College has purchased property at 1500 West Pershing Boulevard in North Little Rock for future development of a child development center.
The property, which contains a 6,525 square-foot commercial building and 31,800 square feet of land, was purchased for $429,000 from Marabella Properties LLC. Closing is on or before Feb. 28.
For the past nine years, the college has operated the Children First child development center in partnership with the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System's Towbin Healthcare Center in North Little Rock. The center has a two-fold mission:
- to provide high-quality, convenient child-care services to community residents; Pulaski Tech students, faculty and staff; and employees of the Towbin Healthcare Center; and
- to serve as a model learning environment for students enrolled in the college's early childhood development programs.
"Child development centers are invaluable teaching tools for our child development students," said Dr. Dan F. Bakke, college president. "Pulaski Tech is very supportive of families and parents who want to continue their education."
There are no plans to discontinue the program at Towbin Healthcare Center, Bakke said, adding that the building on Pershing will enable the college to expand its program to serve an additional 66 children a year.
Pulaski Tech offers an associate of applied science in early childhood development with options in early childhood education and program administration. Additionally, the college offers a technical certificate and certificate of proficiency in early childhood development, which prepare students to meet Child Development Associate (CDA) certification requirements.
