Cindy Beck, chair of the Developmental Writing program, will leave for Rwanda on May 14 as part of the Africa Reads program to train teachers. About a dozen people from central Arkansas are going on the month-long visit which includes three weeks in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, and a week in Musanze.
Volunteers pay their own expenses. Cindy will be visiting schools and providing professional development training for local school teachers. In Rwanda, students don't have books; teachers write on blackboards with chalk and the students copy the information.
They need classroom supplies, and donations are welcome. Items needed, in order of most need, are white chalk, large pad paper used for presentations; markers; children's books; pens/pencils; notepads; paper clips; and tape.
If you would like to donate any supplies as part of a care package, drop off any donations at the PR & Marketing. The college will be mailing a care package.
