Weatherization Training Center offers four new certifications
9/5/2013

PTC's Weatherization Training Center has been awarded accreditation by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) to offer four new credentials that are becoming the standard for the green economy workforce.

The Department of Energy has been working with private sector partners and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to promote the Home Energy Professional (HEP) set of credentials, which includes Retrofit Installer, Crew Leader, Energy Auditor and Quality Assurance Inspector.

Unlike previously available certifications, these credentials will require industry experience as well as the satisfactory scores on exams.

"The WTC is proud to say that we are one of only a handful of training centers in the country to receive accreditation awards for all four training programs," said Roger Smith, director of the Weatherization Training Center.

Both of the center's trainers - Adrian Correa and Brannon Runions - have been approved as proctors to administer the written and field exams for these credentials. Runions also recently passed the training requirements to perform multifamily audits, which are energy audits on multifamily low-rise buildings.

Significant energy savings are possible in these buildings, and Brannon's success will lead to his being able to administer trainings and proctor the exams for others in Arkansas' workforce.
