The Ottenheimer Brothers Foundation of Little Rock has pledged $250,000 to the Pulaski Technical College Foundation over a three-year period to make much-needed improvements to the college's Ottenheimer Library system, which has branches on three Pulaski Tech sites.
The gift will be used to improve the college library's collections, replace outdated computers, update work stations and furniture, and make library improvements.
The library has a $24,000 budget for buying additional materials - about $75,000 less than the library budgets of other community colleges in the state and more than $200,000 below the national average budget allotment.
Current workstations and furniture in the Ottenheimer Library on the college's Main Campus are now seven years old and will be updated. A few student workstations were added in 2010, but with the Ottenheimer funding, the older, original workstations will be updated to maintain a uniform look. At the same time, computers in the library are now in their fourth year of use. The standard replacement interval for student computers is three years.
To recognize the Ottenheimer Brothers Foundation's loyal support, the library at Little Rock-South will be named the Ottenheimer Library - South at a future date.
