Special election for Pulaski Tech district set for March 11
Pulaski County residents will vote Tuesday, March 11, in a special election
to consider a tax millage for Pulaski Technical College.
Voters are being asked to consider a 1.9-mill request. If approved, the millage
would raise $11 million to improve the college's infrastructure needs, including
technology upgrades, math/science labs renovations, and Student Services
improvements. In return, PTC would provide a $10 per credit hour tuition
discount to Pulaski County residents. If approved, homeowners in Pulaski County
would pay $38 in property tax on a home valued at $100,000.
Pulaski Tech currently receives revenues from tuition and fees and from state
funding, which is below the amount the state's own funding formula calls for.
All but six of the state's 22 two-year colleges receive local funds from the
communities they support, and PTC is one of those without, despite being the
largest of all the two-year colleges.
More than 100 polling sites will be open Tuesday. Early voting started last week
and continues until 5 p.m. today at the Pulaski County Regional Building, 501 W.
Markham St, in downtown Little Rock from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and at the William F.
Laman Library, 2801 Orange St. in North Little Rock.
All Pulaski Tech employees must abide by regulations regarding political
activity during work hours or utilizing state property. Such activity is
prohibited by law. See more details
