The Pulaski Technical College Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute, located at the college's Little Rock-South site at 13000 Interstate 30.
The Academic Affairs Committee and Finance Committees will meet first, followed by the full board. Among the agenda items are discussion of the 2014-15 operating budget, the president's evaluation, and consideration of the college's policy to "opt-out" of the state statute that would allow the carrying of concealed handguns by college employees on campus. In March 2013, Arkansas House Bill 1243 was signed into law as Act 226 and amended several sections of the Arkansas Code dealing with possession of handguns on public property, including college campuses.
For concealed carry to be implemented on a college campuses requires four
elements under the law: 1) The individual must have a concealed handgun license
and 2) be an employee of the college; 3) The institution must have no policy
expressly disallowing staff possession of a concealed gun; and 4) The college
must post written notice if it has a prohibitory policy.
