African educators visit Pulaski Technical College
10/4/2006

A group of African educators are in Arkansas this week as part of a mission to learn about the American educational system.

And much of their learning took place at Pulaski Technical College.

"They came to Pulaski Tech to learn more about how the community college system works in the United States," said College President Dr. Dan F. Bakke, who met with the delegates Tuesday. "We discussed the philosophy of the community college, funding and programs. We also discussed the kind of jobs our students receive when they finish."

The African delegation included representatives from the Republic of Rwanda, Republic of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Lira and Ghana. Many of the delegates work for the education ministries in their respective countries.

The group also visited with Augusta Farver, dean of business, and Mayo Johnson, instructor of information technology.

The delegation's visit was coordinated through the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's International Visitor Center. The group planned to travel to Denver, Colo. later this week.
