Storyteller Faye Hanson will present an evening of stories and storytelling techniques for adults and families on Thursday, April 19, as part of Pulaski Technical College's celebration of National Library Week.
"The Heart of the Matter: An Evening of Interactive Storytelling with Faye Hanson" will be 7-8:30 p.m. in the R. J. Wills Lecture Hall, located on the second floor of the Campus Center Building on the main campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Ms. Hanson's performance is sponsored by the Pulaski Technical College Ottenheimer Library Committee as part of National Library Week, April 15-20.
Hanson of North Little Rock will demonstrate the power of storytelling and how storytelling can be used to record history, promote literacy and improve instruction through engaging and entertaining stories and activities.
She has been featured at numerous storytelling festivals throughout the south central United States and has been a presenter at state and national conferences for the arts, education, libraries and state parks. For the past decade, she has performed at the Central Arkansas Library's main library in Little Rock on the fourth Saturday of every month.
Ms. Hanson is also the Gifted and Talented Specialist at Rockefeller Elementary School in Little Rock and she teaches College Reading at Pulaski Technical College.
The Pulaski Technical College Ottenheimer Library Committee is also sponsoring Tell-A-Story, an oral history project in celebration of National Library Week. Library staff will help participants preserve the stories of their friends, relatives and neighbors by recording their stories on CD.
Participants can reserve a time at the Library Circulation Desk when the storyteller and interviewer can spend about an hour together. The library will handle the recording and provide participants with a copy of their story on CD.
Sessions will be conducted April 16-20, from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday. To schedule a time, call the Library Circulation Desk at (501) 812-2273.
