Pulaski Technical College has received a performing arts grant from the Mid-America Arts Alliance to support a performance this fall by Mark Twain impersonator Richard Salassi.
Salassi will perform for Pulaski Tech faculty, staff and students at 10 a.m. Nov. 30, the birthday of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. An evening performance on Nov. 29 from 6:30-8 p.m. will be open to the public.
Both performances will be in the R. J. Wills Lecture Hall in the Pulaski Technical College Campus Center.
During his two-stay stay in Arkansas, Salassi also will be involved in a professional development workshop for Pulaski Tech's Fine Arts and Humanities instructors as well as for English and literature teachers from area high schools.
The college also will host a Mark Twain birthday party that will serve 30 middle school students who are clients at the Centers for Youth and Families.
The presentation is supported by Mid-America Arts Alliance with underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, Pulaski Technical College Foundation, and foundations, corporations and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
The event is co-sponsored by Pulaski Technical College's Ottenheimer Library, Fine Arts and Humanities Division, and Student Life and Leadership.
Mid-America Arts Alliance enriches communities through cultural experiences throughout America's heartland to share in and enjoy the arts and culture of our region and the world.
Salassi of Texas is an experienced stage actor who performs his one-man act about 40 times a year in classrooms across the country.
"Pulaski Tech is to be commended for their commitment to serving their community with this distinctive event," said Mary Kennedy McCabe, executive director of the Mid-America Arts Alliance. "Audiences in central Arkansas will have the opportunity to see the exciting work of Richard Salassi, many for the first time, and Mid-America Arts Alliance is proud to help support this work."
