UALR Philosopher offers guest lecture
2/14/2008

The Department of Philosophy and Liberal Studies will host guest lecturer Dr. Andrew Eshleman, an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. in the R.J. Wills Lecture Hall in the Campus Center. Dr. Eshleman will lead a lecture and discussion on the topic of free will and moral responsibility.

Dr. Eshleman teaches a variety of courses at UALR, including Religious Worldviews, Philosophy of Religion, Eastern Thought, Ethics and Society, Reasoning Across the Disciplines, Medical Ethics and Modern Philosophy.

His primary area of research interest is in examining the conditions under which people judge it reasonable to hold persons responsible for their actions and character.

"One of the interesting things about this area is the increasing awareness of the ways in which it involves consideration of issues in ethics in conjunction with issues associated with the traditional debates about the nature of human freedom," Eshleman asserts.

Dr. Eshleman has a doctorate in philosophy from the University of California, Riverside and master's degrees in religion and philosophy from Claremont Graduate University.
