Little Rock-South site sneak preview a success
4/25/2008

Over 150 friends of Pulaski Technical College gathered Friday to explore and admire the college's latest work in progress, the Little Rock - South site. Guests were treated to hard-hat-optional tours of the impressive new facility, which is scheduled to open for classes in time for the start of the fall 2008 semester beginning in August.

A short program began the event as PTC Board of Trustees Chair John Barnes, President Dan F. Bakke and PTC Foundation Chair Donald J. Cook addressed the audience under the "clerestory," a two-story skylight that is the architectural centerpiece of the building. U.S. Congressman Vic Snyder concluded the program. All four speakers spoke on the common themes of the importance of educational accessibility to community college students, the need for a better-trained workforce, and the link between education and economic development.

Repesentatives from general contractor East-Harding then gave tours of the facility, accompanied by PTC administration, faculty, and staff and members of the Benton, Bryant, Little Rock Regional, and North Little Rock Chambers of Commerce. Members of the Arkansas State Legislature and the city govenments of Benton, Bryant, Little Rock and North Little Rock were also in attendance.

The Pulaski Tech family extends its sincere thanks to all of the community leaders who attended the event.

The new site will house the Pulaski Technical College Transportation Technology Center and will allow a substantial increase in enrollment for transportation -related training.
The center will be home to expanded programs in:

Automotive technology
Collision repair
Diesel repair technology
Small engine repair
Motorcycle/ATV technology
Commercial driver training
Transportation facility management training
General education college courses

In 2005, Pulaski Tech purchased building formerly known as the Expo Center, located just off I-30 near the Saline and Pulaski county boundary. These programs will dramatically increase access to higher education for residents of Saline and south Pulaski counties.
