Local chefs square off in Diamond Chef Arkansas

Local chefs will compete for bragging rights tonight in the Diamond Chef Arkansas competition benefiting the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School.

The event includes a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a fast-paced cooking competition at 7:30 p.m. in the Peabody Little Rock Hotel Ballroom. The culinary competition pits Donnie Ferneau, owner of Ferneau restaurant, against Peabody hotel executive chef Andre Poirot. The contest will follow the format of the popular Iron Chef series. Each chef and his sous-chefs will have 60 minutes to prepare three dishes resembling that of the audience's menu and one dish using a surprise ingredient, which will be announced just before the competition. Chefs will be judged on plate presentations, creativity and taste.

Chef Ferneau was the winner of the March 4 preliminary competition that featured Richard Allan, executive chef for Dillard's Bistro 1600; Shane Henderson, chef for Simply the Best Catering; and Cynthia East, lead instructor at the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School.
