Pulaski Technical College will kick off its 2009 Health Challenge with a two-day health fair that runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 9-10 in the Campus Center foyer.
Guest speakers include Former Dallas Cowboys player Reggie Swinton, who will speak at noon on Monday, and former Arkansas Razorbacks receiver Anthony Lucas, who will speak at noon on Tuesday.
The 2009 Health Challenge is a campus health and wellness program and is open to everyone on campus. The goal is to help faculty, staff and students learn about the prevention of heart disease and strokes, the importance of calling 911 in emergencies, and signs of high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Participants will become healthier and more knowledgeable about nutrition and exercise.
At the healthy fair, participants can have their blood pressure, glucose levels and cholesterol checked and sign up for the "PTC Loses a Ton" and "PTC Walks 10,000 Miles" health challenges.
More than 20 vendors will be in the Campus Center foyer and Grand Hall, including several fitness centers, the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, Arkansas AIDS Foundation, Arkansas Department of Health, Arkansas Respiratory Health Association, American Cancer Society and the Harmony Health Clinic. The Arkansas National Guard will bring educational information related to drug and alcohol use. Participants will receive a free wellness journal and earn T-shirts and prizes.
Grant funds from the Arkansas Department of Health Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention program and the Arkansas Collegiate Drug Education Committee are being invested to make the 2009 Health Challenge possible.
