Contest essays due March 10

Student submissions for the 5th annual National Library Week Student Essay Contest are due March 10.

Personal essays on the theme of "Communities Thrive @ Your Library" must be 750-1,250 words in length and should be submitted to slonghorn@pulaskitech.edu in rich text format with name, address and e-mail.

National Library Week will be celebrated April 11 -17, and essay winners will be announced on April 15. The first-place winner will receive tuition for a three-hour course and publication in Milestones. The second-place winner will receive a $75 PTC Bookstore gift certificate, and the third-place winner will receive a $25 bookstore certificate.

Suggested topics for the personal narrative-style essay include the following:

Your personal thoughts on how a community activity touched your life
Why a particular community is important to you
How a book or author exposed you to a different community/culture or how it played an important role in your life
How you used the library to learn about another country/culture

The Student Essay Contest is sponsored by the PTC Library Committee and the Division of Fine Arts & Humanities.
