April 2010 Sonya Russ successfully defended her dissertation on March 17 and is now Dr. Sonya Russ. "Song for Fever," a poem by English instructor Angie Macri has been nominated by Southern Indiana Review for Best New Poets. Best New Poets is a yearly anthology published by the University of Virginia Press. Also, has published two poems "After They Married" and "Seawall Boulevard" in Big Muddy: A Journal of the Mississippi River Valley. Big Muddy is published by the Southeast Missouri State University Press in Cape Girardeau.
March 2010 Wade Derden, instructor of history and political science, co-presented "An Implementation Analysis of the Arkansas System of Care Network" at the Arkansas Political Science Association's annual conference on Feb. 27 at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Derden also presented this paper to colleagues and child services stakeholders in Fayetteville in December as the final project of his capstone class at the University of Arkansas. Angie Macri, Instructor of English, published her poem "Clockworks" in Folio, which is published by the Department of Literature at American University in Washington DC. Congratulations are in order to Danny Martin, WebCT Administrative Support Specialist, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management from American Public University. Candace Gray Pierce, Instructor of Sociology, ran the Little Rock 2010 Half Marathon (13.1 miles) for the first time on Sunday, March 7
February 2010 Lennon Parker, Web communications specialist, was elected as vice chair for the Next Generation of Young Professionals of the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. Lennon has served on the board as marketing chair since 2006. Angie Macri, Instructor of English, published the poems "Lewisia Rediviva," "North of Frohna," "Say as You Move," and "Plum" in Blue Earth Review. Blue Earth Review is published by Minnesota State University, Mankato. January 2010 Dr. Dan F. Bakke, president of Pulaski Technical College, has been elected to a two-year term on the Higher Education Executive Council of the Presidents and Chancellors Council of Arkansas colleges and universities. Angie Macri, Instructor of English, published a poem "Governors and Generals of Light" in Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review. Borderlands is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division. Macri's poem "Summer of Perfect Flowers" appeared in the latest issue of Redactions: Poetry & Poetics, a journal published in Brockport, New York. In addition, Macri published three poems, "Harvest," "The Largest Island in the World," and "Amber" in The Chaffin Journal. The Chaffin Journal is produced by the Department of English at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Kentucky. Sandy Longhorn, instructor of English, has been invited to speak at Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton this semester. At UACCM, Longhorn will address an Introduction to Poetry class as a guest lecturer on the evening of Tuesday, March 9. She will provide a general talk on poetry as well as reading from her own works and participating in a Q & A with the students.
