Working under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the
occupational therapy assistant uses purposeful activity to aid clients with
physical, mental, and developmental disabilities in functioning as independently
as possible in the areas of self care, work, and leisure. Occupational therapy
assistants work in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation
centers, school systems, long term care facilities, pediatric clinics, and
mental health facilities.
Pulaski Technical College is partnered with Baptist Health
Schools Little Rock (BHSLR) to offer an Associate of Applied Science in
Occupational Therapy Assistant. It is a two-year, full-time program taught at
BHSLR. Admission is competitive and interview-based through BHSLR. Eighteen
students are selected annually. Coursework follows the PTC academic calendar and
is composed of classroom and clinical experiences. A total of 70 hours are
required for this degree.
9 hours of coursework:
20 hours of observation with an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. (Paperwork included in application packet.)
ACT Score of 19 required. (Compass test not accepted.

*-For students who intend to pursue higher level degrees that will require two semesters of A&P credit, completion of both BIOL 1402 and BIOL 1403 with a grade of C or better can be used to satisfy this course requirement.
Tuition and fees are collected by PTC. The total cost of the
program is derived from PTC standard tuition and fees, $185/credit hour OTA
Program fee, books, and other professional fees. Financial aid is available to
students through PTC.

Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the
occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for
Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of
this exam, the individual will be a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA).
In addition, most states (including Arkansas) require licensure in order to
practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT
Certification Examination. Licensure of the occupational therapy assistant in
Arkansas is awarded by the Arkansas State Medical Board based on the results of
the NBCOT examination. All Level II fieldwork experiences must be completed
within 18 months of the didactic coursework. Fieldwork must be completed prior
to applying for the national certification examination. For additional
