Saline County Adult Education Center
Pulaski Technical College operates the Saline County Adult Education Center at Benton offering General Educational Development (GED) preparation, basic skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and computer literacy programs for residents of Saline County and the surrounding area. The center is located at 16936 Interstate 30 in Benton at Exit 117.
Steps for Enrollment
Enrollment is offered on an open-entry/open-exit policy.
- Complete the enrollment form. Students must be age 18 or over to enroll. Students aged 16 or 17 can enroll under certain guidelines.
- Submit an Arkansas picture I.D. or driver's license for proof of identification. A copy of the I.D. card will be made and kept in the student’s file.
- Complete an enrollment test in two parts: the LOCATOR and Test of Adult Basic Education (T.A.B.E). The T.A.B.E will be scored by machine and a diagnostic of the student’s academic strengths and weaknesses will be printed. This diagnostic tool will be utilized for instructional purposes.
- Complete a Washington State Learning Disabilities Screening Tool. If this tool and the student’s T.A.B.E scores reflect a need for more testing, then the student may be referred to another agency for a complete battery of tests to determine if the student has learning disabilities and will require accommodations. Instructors Janice Housley and Rebecca Ballard have been trained in accommodating students with learning disabilities.
Once a student is enrolled, then he/she may receive one-on-one instruction from a certified teacher during our regular hours of operation. The student will be post-tested with the T.A.B.E before 40 hours of instruction have been completed.
G.E.D. Testing
The student must pass the Official G.E.D. Practice Test with a minimum score of 410 in each of the five areas on the test (writing, social studies, science, reading, and math) and overall average of 450 before he/she can take the Official G.E.D. Test, which is by appointment only.
Hours of Operation
8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday (except otherwise noted for holidays, school closings, and inclement weather. In case of inclement weather, Saline Country Adult Education Center closes with the Benton School District.)
