Diamond Chef Arkansas gets under way Tuesday with the first rounds of competition between area chefs.
The cooking competition, which follows the format of the popular Iron Chef television show, begins at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Peabody Little Rock hotel. Admission is free to the public.
The first heat begins at 2:30 p.m. featuring chefs Michael Powell, executive chef for Chenal Country Club, and Ted Roman, executive chef at the Arlington Hotel. A second heat begins at 3:30 p.m. between Jason Knapp, executive chef at the Arkansas Governor's Mansion and Cindy East, lead instructor at the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School.
The winners from each of the two heats will then compete against each other at 5:30 p.m. The overall winner will then advance to the final cook-off on June 2 against reigning Diamond Chef Donnie Ferneau, executive chef of Ferneau restaurant.
