Nationally syndicated cartoonist John Deering will discuss censorship issues in journalism on Thursday as part of Pulaski Technical College's celebration of Banned Books Week, taking place this week.
Deering's presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the RJ Wills Lecture Hall, located on the second floor of the Campus Center.
Deering is the chief political cartoonist and illustrator for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. His "Strange Brew" and "Zack Hill" cartoons are now nationally syndicated. Deering is also a sculptor, whose work includes the nine life-sized bronze sculptures in the civil rights memorial sculpture called the "Testament" as well as the statue at the center of the Arkansas Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. Both sculptures are located on the Arkansas State Capitol grounds.
Deering's presentation is sponsored by the PTC Libraries Committee and Division of Fine Arts and Humanities. It is free and open to the public.
