Pulaski Tech's Network for Student Success will host a showing of the movie Bilal's Stand on Monday, Nov. 16, followed by a visit with the movie's director on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
The movie, a 16mm feature film, will be shown beginning at 12 p.m. Monday in the R.J. Wills Lecture Hall, located on the second floor of the Campus Center. Beginning at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, movie director Sultan Sharrief will discuss the issues presented in the film and how they relate to prevalent issues on college campuses around the country. Events on both days are open to the public.
The movie focuses on the life of a Detroit high school senior who must decided whether to carry on the tradition of running his family's taxi stand or break away to attend college. It is an autobiographical account of Sharrief's youth.
Sharrief is the founder of EFEX: Encouraging the Filmmaking Experience. The program aims to provide through filmmaking "a comprehensive approach to teach young people how to live prosperous, socially valuable lives and to provide pathways to diversity in higher education."
