About TRIO
In 2005, TRIO celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which instituted, among other things, the federal student financial program and the first of the TRIO programs. The purpose, in the language of the HEA of 1965, is to “carry out a program of making grants and contracts designed to identify qualified individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, to prepare them of a program of postsecondary education, to provide support services for such students who are pursuing programs of postsecondary education, to motive and prepare students for doctoral programs, and to train individuals serving or preparing for service in programs and projects so designed.”
