Pulaski Technical College Testing Services administers various assessments and approves college credit earned through credit by examination programs.

The Pulaski Technical College Testing Center is located in the Campus Center building, room 240, on the North Little Rock campus. The Compass test is also administered one day a week in the Student Services office at the Little Rock-South location. Photo identification is required for all assessments. No food or drink is allowed in the Testing Center. Children are not allowed in the Testing Center and may not be left unattended on campus.
The COMPASS is a group of computerized placement tests by the American College Testing (ACT) placement programs. Pulaski Technical College uses the COMPASS to place students into courses that match their current skill level in reading, English and math.

Who is required to take the COMPASS?
- First-time entering freshmen seeking a degree, certificate or general studies for transfer.
- Students planning to take English, math or courses that require English or math as a prerequisite.
- Students who have taken the ACT, ASSET or COMPASS more than five years ago and have not since completed a math or English course. Students who do not have a GED and who have not graduated from high school.
Who is not required to take the COMPASS?
- Students who submit ACT, ASSET or COMPASS scores no more than five years old to the Admissions Office.
- Students who have received a "C" or better in college English or math courses. An official college transcript should be on file in the Admissions Office.
- Non-degree seeking students who wish to enroll in a class other than English or math for personal interest only.
There is a non-refundable $10 fee to take all three sections of the COMPASS or a $5 fee for any one section. The COMPASS is an untimed test; however, approximate time to complete the test is two hours. It is administered at the North Little Rock campus on a walk-in basis every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. except when the campus is closed. It is administered at Little Rock-South on a walk-in basis every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except when the campus is closed. Please arrive at least two hours prior to test center closing to allow adequate time to complete the assessment (6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays).
Photo identification is required. The COMPASS is scored and the results given immediately following testing. Based on scores, students may be required to enroll in certain classes. Students who have a disability requiring accommodation should contact Disability Support Services at least one week before arriving for the test.

Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is required of all applicants to the Pulaski Technical College Practical Nursing program. The TEAS is comprised of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English.
Applicants to the Pulaski Technical College Practical Nursing program may apply to the program between September 1 and April 15 of each year for application to the following fall class. The TEAS may be taken twice in each application year. TEAS scores used for application to the PTC Practical Nursing program are valid only when taken within the last 2 years.
The TEAS is a timed test and takes 3 hours 29 minutes to complete. The Test of Essential Academic Skills is offered on Thursdays, and some Saturdays, at various times. Paper and pencils will be provided. Calculators and cell phones are prohibited in the testing lab. Children are not permitted in the testing lab and should not be left unattended on campus. Please do not bring food or drink.

TEAS Study Guide
Foreign Language Placement Exams (SCAPE)
The Spanish Computer Adaptive Placement Exam is designed to measure current skill level in Spanish to place students in the correct Spanish course level. It is administered on a walk-in basis every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Most students finish within 10-30 minutes. There is no fee. Photo identification is required. Results are available immediately.
Students do not earn credits by taking the SCAPE. The test allows placement into Spanish courses without meeting prerequisite Spanish courses depending upon skill level.

Proctored Exams for non-PTC Students
Proctored online or pencil and paper exams for those that are not currently enrolled at Pulaski Technical College are assessed a $25 fee per exam. Exams can be scheduled during open test center hours by contacting the testing center office at (501) 812-2220.
Credit by examination may be obtained through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), the Advanced Placement Program (AP) and DANTES DSST exams. PTC uses the following policies for awarding college credit by examination to students:
- Students must be currently enrolled before CLEP, AP or DANTES credit can be posted to the transcript.
- Students may earn a maximum of 30 hours of credit by examination.
- No grade is awarded for credit and credit is not calculated in the grade point average.
- Credit will not be awarded if the class has been taken and a grade earned.
Official copies of CLEP, AP or DANTES score reports should be sent directly to the Counseling and Advising Services office. No credit will be awarded until official score reports are received and approved.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Pulaski Technical College does not administer CLEP exams but does accept some CLEP tests for credit.

DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support)
DANTES tests are usually taken by those in the military but they are also available to non-military persons. DANTES also offers DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs). DANTES score reports should be sent directly to the Pulaski Technical College Counseling Services office, 3000 West Scenic Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118.
DSST’s accepted for credit at Pulaski Technical College (PDF)
International Baccalaureate (IB) ProgramPulaski Technical College may award college credit for some IB courses. An official transcript must be mailed from the IB institution directly to the PTC Dean of Enrollment Services before credit will be awarded. Credit will not be awarded without an official transcript. College credit for IB courses will be approved for credit after departmental review. Individualized curriculum will be evaluated by the Dean of Enrollment Services.
