I worked for a bookstore for nearly two and a half years before I decided that I wanted to go back to college. I was drawing a house floorplan on a piece of paper one day, just goofing off, when I heard a commercial on the radio about an Associate Degree in Drafting and Design. It kind of made me laugh since I was doodling a floor plan at the same time, so I looked into how many courses I would need to take to get that degree. Pulaski Tech seemed to be the most affordable and very organized when I went to see Billy Parchman about the Drafting and Design Program at Pulaski Tech.
I enrolled full-time my first semester at Pulaski Tech and worked full-time at the bookstore so I could pay for my classes. After my first semester there, Matt Parchman found out I was working to pay for college and found a way to get me a scholarship for the Drafting and Design program. It covered everything, even my books. This was a huge relief and gave me a good impression of Pulaski Tech. I realized that the teachers had an attitude of "I am here to help you get through college any way possible." I was very impressed.
After my first year at Pulaski Tech, Billy Parchman set me up with an interview at Tinsley Mullen Engineers, Inc in Little Rock. I wasn't sure engineering was what I wanted to do, but it paid a lot better than going back to the bookstore for a summer job. I was hired the same day as my interview and worked the entire summer and loved it! The more I drew for the engineers, the more I learned, and the more I wanted to know about engineering. I worked part-time at TME during my second year at Pulaski Tech. Finishing the program, I received my associate degree and got promoted at my job to an electrical designer. I have worked here three years now and I still love it.
I plan to go back to college within the next year or so to get my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. This is something I would have never dreamed about had Pulaski Tech not pointed me in the right direction for my future. Thank you Billy, Matt and Pulaski Tech, for helping me find my niche in life!
